Located at the highest point of the port, the church offers a breathtaking view. It is built on the remnants of a 6th-century Byzantine church, which was itself constructed over a Roman temple. Among these ancient ruins, fragments of granite columns can be observed. The church is particularly favored by fishermen, who seek blessings there before heading out to sea in the morning.
Beneath the church, an altar and mosaics have been discovered, highlighting the site’s extensive historical and architectural legacy. Believed to have been constructed shortly before the Crusader period, the church is distinguished by its buttresses. A buttress is an architectural structure built against or projecting from a wall which serves to support or reinforce the wall.
